If you read my last blog, you would've known how close we are to not having the art of the cutting and scratching elements form the list of skills. I don't want to touch that subject today. I want to focus on what we always like to do about this time...Music exposure!
A good DJ friend of mine told me about how it was a different type of party back in the day. "We had to set up EVERYTHING!", he said. I covered a lot of events over the years and I can admit that each time that I saw the set up times for shows and sound checks shrinking at "record speed" ;-), I could only wonder two things; 1.how does that piece of equipment work, and 2. Where's the vinyl? Now the answer to that question will spill out a whole lot of theories and break some insider codes. As wax gets ushered out (hopefully not), the flash/external drive becomes the new "crate". Please Techniq don't push us into a completely wax-less society. Hip Hop needs this. Better yet...If you're not spinning wax, you're not a DJ! At the end of it all I've learned to embrace (to a minimum) the idea of digital distribution.
By all means I'm a fan of the digital pools that are keeping it 100: VirDIKO, MP3Waxx, and Starfleet are definitely my go to record pools. There're plenty more out there but if you want to connect to your market without the noise of other genres, then these three are where it's at. Oh, you can always check the #MacAttack. Just make sure you do something!
