The VirDiKo Mixer

Club Icon was the venue.  Virdiko was the host.  DeShon’s celebrity catering provided the food.  Welcome to the Virdiko Mixer that was held in Dallas, TX.  This was my first time attending this mixer...'BOY' what a blast.  Not only do you get to network with DJ's from all over, artists are there as well to mix and mingle to get to know the Who's Who in the DJ spotlight.

Upon entering, you are lured by the smell of DeShon's food.  Her meatballs, chicken wings, and macaroni-n-cheese were calling my name.  Big Daddie the DJ himself on the mic greeting everyone upon arrival!  DJ Tuss on the 1's and 2's.  Club Icon..what a GREAT venue!  The entrance is grand, that of red carpet status.  The stage is the focal point and overlooks the lower level while the upstairs provides private seating for VIP.  There was not a bad seat in the house. (Yes, we scoped it out from all angles!)

There were spotlight presentations on the new Pioneer equipment, 420 Spray, and DJ's for Chairity just to name a few.  Big Daddie also made a few examples out of the artists that were in attendance by explaining the importance of presentation with their product: proper labeling, good graphics, songs mixed and mastered professionally, and casing.  otherwise, their music could end up as a 'frisbee' on highway 75.  he explained that they needed to invest in themselves.  In the end, it was all a learning lesson to the artists.  If they want to be taken seriously, they need to present themsevles as a business!  afterall, there is a difference between an Artist and a rapper.

Big Daddie also stressed the iportance of have proper market and promoting for your product.  if your presentation is off, the PR community will not 'buy' into you.  They must know you are serious about your career and good PR folks aren't cheap.  Sure anyone can use social media to 'push' your music and it doesn't cost much at all.  But what results do you expect to achieve?  It's similar to buying 'generic' shoes at a local big box store v/s a pair of 'J's' at a reputable shoe company.  You get what you pay for.  Save your money and put it where results are proven!

During the different sets, we mingled to say 'hello' to all the DJ's.  We were able to get quite a few pictures with DJ's and Artists that support n'Rotation.  This just goes to show that we are supported not only by the independents, but those of celebrity status back us as well!  The music industry like many others, it a networking game.  You never want to burn your bridges.  Everyone had to start somewhere to build their career.

Virdiko hosts mixers quite frequently, this is an excellent opportunity to 'Be Seen and Heard'  The attendees come from all over the world!  Virdiko gives out prizes ranging from complimentary Artist promotions to headphones.  Make sure you stay up to date on the mixers nearest you and mark your calendar.  Come prepared...you never know who you might run into.  afterall, Kendrick Lamar's first show only had 13 people there and look where he is now.  Don't ever discredit the small crowd, 'THE MAN' or 'WOMAN' just might be there!

Remember, I know YOUR DJ!
